#PlayStationVR #Gaming – Sony Playstation VR Sales Hit One Million Units : Sony Corporation, one of the leading Japanese multinational company, has sold more than one million units globally of its PlayStation virtual reality or VR headset. The Asia’s chief of the tech and gaming market claimed the achievement on Wednesday.
According to CNBC, the comparatively low price of the VR headset helps push the product into an early lead. In fact, the sales of the PlayStation VR headset, which was released in October last year, have “exceeded our expectations,” according to Atsushi Morita.
Aside from that, Morita, Asia’s Sony Interactive Entertainment president, said in an interview that they are boosting the production of the PS VR. The processing team is doing their best in order to address the supply shortage equally.
The sales impulse as of now supports analysts’ view that the tech firm is in a good position to develop an early lead in the high-end VR headset. In this case, it would be an easy victory for their race with its more modest price tag and by hitting the nearly 60 million users around the world of its flagship PlayStation 4 console.
Sony’s VR headset is designed to work with the PS 4 rather than requiring new equipment. Its retail price is at $399, which is cheaper than Facebook’s $599 Oculus Rift and HTC’s $799 Vive. According to BGR, the PlayStation VR also helps to the fact that Sony’s PS 4, as well as PS4 Pro, are the currently leading gaming console over its rival, the Microsoft Xbox One.
For the record, in the first three months of 2017, Sony shipped an approximately 2 million VR headsets worldwide. Morita said that it was still the beginning of Sony’s long-term vision for VR headset. “I believe that VR technology is the (greatest) innovation since the birth of television,” he said. “VR allows you to travel to World Heritage sites or to space while staying at home. It’s like a time machine or a door to anywhere.”
